do you have his death cert? that will tell you where hes`s buried. If he died in Malta his death will be registered there. try http://www.gov.mt/frame.asp?l=1&url=http://www.certifikati.gov.mt
Click on English bottom right hand corner. He died in 1896 so you should be able to get it no problem. The records stop from the registery office in 1863/4.then are held in the Parish.
