If I remember rightly Robert or his father moved from Bickerton in Cheshire where Robert or his father was a younger son of the landed family of Malpas of Bickerton. One of the Dublin Malpases was I think Mayor of Dublin and Roberts daughter Ann married into the Talbot de Malahides.
Rathmines figures in it all somewhere but may be that's the district where Malpas Place is?
Either way it all goes back to one of William I knights being made the feudal Baron Malpas. There's a bit of info on the net if you search under Malpas.
