Sure, Dorothy. I'm surprised I didn't give you this when we had that Jackson group going a few years ago.
The story about John Jackson drowning on the way home from jury duty came from my grandfather Dan Maloy. His recollections were copied down by one of my aunts a couple of years before he died in 1968. He was born in 1888. This was the information which had been given to him by his mother, Sara Jane, who was one of John Jacksons daughters.
Dan recalled that John supposedly drowned in the San Saba river. To further illustrate the point that this kind of family history info often proves to be invaluable to researchers, a lady using the handle of Cassie from Texas who is related to another branch of these Jacksons told me back in 2002 that one of her family letters refer to an uncle who drowned in the Llano River while chasing a bear at the age of 100. As i recall,The person who wrote this letter was a daughter of Moses Jackson who I (and Cassie) believe to be John Jacksons brother for various reasons. I believe Cassie's story refers to John Jackson although he was probably closer to 70 than 100 at the time.
Anyway, thats my original source for the drowning story.
