Mary:
I don't have much information on George. He was enumerated with his parents in 1850 and it shows that he was 19 yo and born in Indiana.
Someone posted to this forum that he graduated from medical school about the same time that he married Sarah. (Short medical school in those days!!)
In 1860 he was living in Mitcheltree, Martin County, Indiana where he was enumerated as 29 yo b. IN and a physician. His wife, Sarah E., was 26 yo b. KY and they had one daughter, Addis, 3 yo b. IN.
I have not found them in the 1870 census. It would be helpful if they could be found.
In 1880 he was still in Mitcheltree, Martin County but he had married Hattie, 31 yo b. NJ (as were her parents). They had a son, Volney, who was b. Sept 1879.
Somewhere on Ancestry.com I found that Harriet had died in Logansport (Indiana?) in 1905. And in the 1900 census George was living by himself. So it would seem that their marriage had ended.
I can do some more poking around to see if I can find anything of interest. I don't know the name of George and Sarah's second child (reputedly they had two). But the two children should be with their mother (or other relative?) in 1870.
