Lucien t. Mallory, a Civil war veteran and a man widely known throughout Waueksha county, died last Friday at his home in Genesee village. He was 78 years of age and had been ill for some weeks with pneumnia.

Mr. Mallory had lived in Waukesha county since the ?(illegible) and in the past twenty years was much in evidence at and highly interested in G.A.R. activities. For many years he participated in the meetings and campaigns of the veterans association in Waukesha, and with tlie local veterans on Memorial Day and other occassions when former soldiers turned out.

To the very last Mr. Mallory preserved his anti-southern opinions and for many years he voiced opposition to any movement which was inclined to be friendly to the former confederates. He was particularly opposed to the erection of the soldiers' monument in Cutler park, as he believed that it would offer southern visitors to Waukesha an opportunity to scoff at the heroes for which it was erected.

Mr. Mallory enlisted in the Union army in New York state and served for more than two years. After the war he made his home at Genesee where he served as postmaster and for many years was a baggageman on the St. Paul road.

The widow and one son, Fred Mallory of San Francisco, survive. Members of the Waukesha G.A.R. post attended the funeral Wednesday.
