I am only going by memory, but I would look at Sylvanus Mallory as his father. Sylvanus had some personal difficulties....trying to kill a second wife with an axe, for instance...and trying to hang himself.... but, again, I can't access my full file so it's possible I'm remembering the wrong Hyram. When I get my file transferred I'll check back.
Sylvanus died in Illinois in c 1883....father Elias was from Vt (married Tamar Bull from Canada) where his parents Odgen and wife (cousin) Sarah Mallory (daughter of Zaacheus Mallory and Sarah Rice....Zaccheus being a brother of Stephen Mallory, father of Odgen) had moved in 1758 (first settler at wells Rutland Vt) from Connecticut. Off of the top of my head, Ogden was the son of Stephen Mallory who owned the ferry concession on the Stratford River, and who lost his life when his canoe tipped over in rough weather.
Several of Odgen's sons fought in the Rev War, Gil and Benajah and again in the War of 1812.
Benajah moved to Canada in 1793 but returned under difficult circumstances in which he was branded a traitor in Canada.
