Does anyone else have Mallard ancestors from the island of Jamaica? This is what I know: The Mallard father was Jonathan. Two of his children married two of the children of Allegonda and John Hall on the same day, a double marriage. The Family Register says that Jonathan Mallard was born at Shrewsbury in the County of Salop (modern day Shropshire). A quick search through the IGI reveals that the name Jonathan Mallard is intimately associated with that particular town, but none of the contenders were born at the right time. Grrr. However, I did find the burial of a John Mallard, merchant, in Kingston 8 Jan 1756; perhaps he was Jonathan's father. Anyway, on Jamaica the Mallard name is very rare so is easy to track. Jonathan Mallard b. Abt 1736 d. 24 Feb 1803 (age 63) bur. 25 Feb 1803 Kingston m. 4 Oct 1770 Kingston, Margaret Pritchard bur. 24 Nov 1809 [St Andrew] Sarah Mallard b. 23 Sep 1771, bap. 21 Oct 1771 Kingston, d. 4 May 1832 Kingston Mary Mallard b. 5 Jul 1773, bap. 3 Aug 1773 Kingston, bur. 24 Aug 1773 Kingston Margaret Mallard b. 17 Apr 1775 St Andrew, d. 26 May 1813, bur. 27 May 1813 St Andrew Elizabeth Mallard b. 17 Aug 1776, bap. 20 Sep 1776 St Andrew Ann Mallard b. 19 Sep 1777, bap. 20 Dec 1777 St Andrew Susanna Mallard b. 9 Apr 1781, bap. 18 Jun 1781 St Andrew, bur. 8 Aug 1781 Kingston So it appears that Jonathan and Margaret had at least six daughters and no sons. The birth of Margaret Mallard comes from the Family Register. I didn't find her baptism in the Parish Registers. The Parish Register entry for Elizabeth's baptism even gives the time of birth; 1/2 past 8 a.m. The Kingston Parish Register entry (Folio 140) for the double marriage is as follows: "John Hall Junior of the parish of Saint Andrew Esquire & Sarah Mallard of the parish of Kingston Spinster were Married the 9th March 1793 Richard Hall of the parish of Saint Andrew Esquire & Margaret Mallard of the parish of Kingston, Spinster were married the 9th march 1793". The two couples then had child after child. Notify Administrator about this message?
