I am searching for information regarding my Great-grandparents who emigrated from Ireland to US in the late 1800's.
My grandmother was Bridget Malia of County Mayo Ireland was born on 2-2-1895. Bridget's father's name was John and her mother's name was Ellen (Summerly). As of 1939, Bridget had 6 siblings that I know of: Katherine Malia Craine (Coraopolis, PA); Mary Malia Larkin (Pittsburgh, PA); Anna Malia Coyne (Ireland); John Malia (Sharpsville, PA); Michael Malia (Sharpsville, PA); and Thomas Malia (Ireland). I suspect that Anna and Thomas may have eventually come to the US as well. I suspect that Bridget's last name may have been changed when she came to this country. I remember hearing before that the name used to be "O'Malia" or "O'Melia".
My grandfather was Martin James Marrie, Sr. of Ireland (exact location is unknown). Martin was born on 8-15-1873 and his parents were Patrick Marrie & Mary (last name is spelled either "Tally" or "Lally"). As of Martin's death in 1933, he had the following family members still alive: His mother, Mary (see above); Two brother's, Thomas & Michael; and one sister, Mary (Mrs. John Thornton). As of 1933, all of these family members remained in Ireland. I also believe the spelling of Martin's last name was changed when he came to this country. I have seen it written as "Marria".
I do know that Martin & Bridget lived in the Pittsburgh area before moving to Sharpsville, PA around 1894 or so. Once they moved to Sharpsville, PA, they lived on Walnut Street and had 7 children: Mary Ellen Marrie (wife of Austin Murray); Helen Marrie Kloss (wife of Albert Kloss); Katherine Marrie (marital status unknown); Cecelia Marrie (never married); John Marrie (Marital status unknown); Thomas Patrick Marrie (married Helen Guthrie) these were my grandparents; Martin James Marrie (died in childhood).
Most of these folks died relatively young, and all died by the time I was age 3 or so. They are buried in unmarked graves and, therefore, information is scarce and I know very little about this side of my family. Any information that anyone could give me to aid me in my search would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
