It may be very difficult to get any reliable information on native Malawians.
At the schoolwe were teaching at in Malawi, we had a student who wanted to join the army, but was too old. He went back to his village and asked his chief how to check how old he was and came back with a piece of paper from an exercise book stating he was a year younger and was thus able to join the army.

Also when we went to register our daughter's birth at the boma in Kasungu, they were very surprised that we would want to do such a thing. We needed a local certificate to get Britsh one. They didn't have any forms, but when we went back a week later we were able to fill in a form to apply for a form for a birth certificate. Given the diffculties, we made sure to get 2 copies.
