Makinson's in Delaware

Help! My g,g-grpa was born John Makinson in 1820 in Delaware. It may have been on the Maryland border as he is listed on one of his children's census records as Maryland.

John lists his parents as being born in England. His middle initial as either an 'A' or an 'H'. He fought in the Civil War for the North where they spelled it Mackinson.

He settled in Ohio in the mid 1840's. He had 8 kids. His wife's name was Mary and she was from somewhere in England, yet they married in Ohio.

His son's names were: William, James, Thomas & John.

Does anyone have someone in the tree who came to the USA and spent any time in Delaware or Maryland? The census records back then left a lot to be desired.

I have been at a dead end with this for a long time. I don't know his siblings names either.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Linda E. Asaro
