Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

There can be many variations of Maki depending on whether they lived on top of the hill, the side of the hill, bottom of the hill, etc. My in-laws were Syrjamaki (side of the hill). However, be careful, as someone else has stated, when the families moved, they took the name of their landlord. In my families case, they were Karstala before moving to Syrjamaki's land.
