Montreal Gazette of 2 May 1912, page 5, column three, under shoe advertisment
"Late Edward J Major" Died at Ste. Agathe after long illness
In the death of Mr Edward J Major, president of the Major Manufacturing at Ste. Agatha den/ des Monta at 6:30 yesterday morning after more than a year of vain fighting to regain his health, Montreal loses one who been identified with the city's social and business circles for more than half a century. In 1910 Mr Major visited England partly in the interests of his health, and partly to make investigations with his work as Dominion inspector of pot and pearl ash [and probably to visit his brother who may have already been in England]. He tried the German baths, and came back to Montreal feeling somewhat better, but his health grew steadily worse, and since July of last year he has been practically confined to his home in Ste Agathe des Monte.
The late Mr Major was in his sixty fifth year. He was a son of the late James E Major, who had been Government inspector of pot and pearl ash before his son succeeded to the position twenty-five years ago on his death.
He started the present company as Major & Company about 1876, but the business was confined to wirecloth until he amalgamated with the R Jollyman Estate about 1884, taking over their paper box business, and forming the present company to conduct the two. Of the original stockholders who entered with him into that combination there now only remains the manager of the company, Mr C P Bingham.
Deceased was very fond of sport and athletics. He was a permanent member of the hunt club, and was successful one year in winning the Hunt Club on his horse, 'Hard Times.' He was a member of the St James Club, being chairman of that institution in 1908 and 1909, and he belonged to the Fish and Game Club, the Chapleau and other clubs. In his early years he went to the front during one of the Fenian raids as lieutenant in a local regiment.
The deceased was married to Miss Anna Donner about 1893 [7 January 1892], who now survives him with one daughter [Charlotte]. He is survived by a brother, Dr George W Major, residing in England, and two sisters in Montreal, Mrs Frank Scott and Miss Major [Sarah Jane Smith Major died 1938 - only possible]. Mr A Baumgarten [was a sponsor to the baptism of Bertha, daughter of Edward James Major and Agnes Marie Donner.] and Mr O W Donner of the St Lawrence Sugar Refining Company, are both brother-in-laws."
The body will be brought into the city today and taken to the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr Frank Scott, treasurer of the Grand Trunk Railway, in the Grosvenor Apartments. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at St George's Church, thence to Mt [Mount] Royal Cemetery."
[Comment: Wikipedia: Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts is a town in the province of Quebec in the regional county municipality of Les Laurentides, in the administrative region of Laurentides, also known as the "Laurentians" or the Laurentian Mountains (in English). Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts borders on a lake called Lac des Sables, and is located approximately 100 kilometres north of Montreal.]

The Montreal Gazette, 13 August 1942, page 12, column three:
"Mrs Frank Scott Dies- Charitable Worker was Wife of Former Vice President
Mrs Frank Scott, 1461 Mountain Street, wife of Frank Scott, former vice-president of the Grand Trunk Railway, died at her home yesterday.
She had been associated with many charitable organizations in her lifetime. She was on the committee, and was a life governor, of the MacKay Institute. She was also on the committee of the Montreal Protestant Orphans Home, and for some years was honorary treasurer. She also took a great interest in the IHN Society and many others.
She had been in ill health for several years and had been unable to do any active work in her favorite charities. However, she still retained her interest in their welfare.
Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Bertha. The Baroness Wrangel of Murray Bay and Montreal is a niece. [daughter of a sister - did not find ] Mrs G W Major, Montreal [husband = throat doctor- found nothing else], is a sister-in-law, and the Venerable Archdeacon Scott of Quebec is a brother in law.
Mrs Scott was born in Montreal, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James E Major. She attended St James the Apostle Church."
