Thanks for the contact. I have never been able to verify the information you have on the Bonnie Bess. In going through the county records, the first record I found of William Kennan was on May 1, 1728 in Richmond County where he was a plaintif in a lawsuit. In the Richmond County Order book, November 5, 1753, both William Kennan and Ann Kennan were reimbursed for participating in the same trial, also noting that the trial reimbursed William for the time of two slaves.Could Ann be his wife? On 1733, in Richmond County, he was named as the father of an ilegitimate child with Alathea Ely.On June 6, 1737, he was licensed to practive law in Richmond County, and over the next few days he was licensed to practice law in Lancaster, Northumberland, and Westmoreland counties as well. Until 1763, he was mentioned many times in the court records as a prosecutor, as well as in his own personal suits. He first purchased land on July 4, 1735, one acre, in Richmond County. I'm sure he did this to meet the required land ownership to be recognized in the courts. On Dec 5, 1756, William deeded some land to a Malcolm Kennan(another iligitimate child), child of Sarah Martin. The deed to Malcolm Kennan was written on 7 Nov 1763, and presented in court after he died on 6 Feb 1764.On 30 December, 1768, a Janet Kennan, filed probate in Scotland, for her brother, William, who had died in Richmond County. I searched the records in Dumfries, Scotland and found where William had been born in Dumfries in 1703. He also had a sister named Janet, and also a brother, Robert, who was also mentioned in the records of Richmond County.
