I was greatly interested in Arthur Josiah Parkes apparently rebuffed proposal of marriage to my great aunt Mrs. Elmer Salzman: "He tried to remarry in 1962 to a Mrs Elmer Salzman, 1818 Oliver Avenue South, Minneapolis. He sent her a gift of 5 cut, unmounted diamonds (value for customs £1078), which she returned to him. He gave them to his grand-daughter, Carol Ann, and gave Antony the equivalent cash." She was the widow of my great uncle, much decorated U.S. Gen. Elmer Salzman, US Marine Corps, who served with distinction in the inter-war years (Navy Cross) and in the Guadalcanal/Solomons campaign during WW II (Bronze Star, Silver Star). Elmer died in th late 50's when I was a mere lad. You can contact me at bcockel@cruzio.com,
