I have a line of my Scottish MAITLAND family that moved from Peterhead, Aberdeen to Ontario, Canada. George MAITLAND Sr and his wife, Elizabeth MASSON had 5 children: George Jr b. 1836 Elizabeth b. 1839 James b. 1841 William b. 1843 John b. 1846 George Jr, James and William stayed in Scotland whereas John and Elizabeth moved to Canada. The 1881 Canadian census finds this entry: 1881 Canadian Census: Household: John MAITLAND M Male Scottish 34 Scotland Bank Clerk C. Presbyterian Sarah E. MAITLAND M Female English 28 England Church of England Florance MAITLAND Female Scottish <1 Born: Oct; 5/12O. <Ontario> Church of England Elizabeth MAITLAND Female Scottish 40 Scotland C. Presbyterian Ellen O'GRADY Female Irish 23 O. <Ontario> Servant Catholic Source Information: Census Place Wellington Ward, Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario Family History Library Film 1375865 NA Film Number C-13229 District 105 Sub-district A Division 2 Page Number 104 Household Number 503 John MAITLAND married a Sarah Elizabeth CAMPBELL, from England, so this record matches and appears to have John's sister, Elizabeth MAITLAND living in the household as well. Additionally, IGI lists a Florence Campbell MAITLAND as daughter of JOhn and Sarah Campbell MAITLAND. John's sister, Elizabeth MAITLAND married a William H. A. Pitt(s). I've found no children from this marriage. I am curious if anyone has links to this family, if so, have you traced them to recent times? My search of Scottish records gave the first clue that John moved to Canada as he was listed in his father's will as living in Upper Canada (1911 Census appears to show members living in Toronto). If anyone has death (or other) information on these MAITLANDs please contact me. It would be especially interesting to see if Florence married, had children, etc) Sincerely, Scott B.
