Elizabeth Maitland figures on the two Maitland pedigrees I have. Her father, John Maitland 'of Eccles' was the fourth generation of that branch of the family, and his younger brother was my 6th great grandfather (John being the eldest).

Being Maitland pedigrees, I have no details of the Fergusson side (spelt 'Fergusson' in one pedigree and 'Ferguson' in the other!), except that William is recorded as Elizabeth's husband and being 'of Caitlock'

I do have dates as follows:

John Maitland b. 8 July 1631 d. 14 May 1678 buried Penpunt
married 28 April 1653 -
Janet Blair b.1630 d. 22 February 1684

6 sons, of whom one died in infancy
3 daughters, of whom Elizabeth was the only one to survive into adulthood - b.7 March 1668 d. 8 March 1703 married April 1690 William Fergusson.

I am interested in the place names but cannot immediately find Caitloch or Glencairn, although I have located Eccles & Penpunt (now called Penpont), both in Dumfriesshire. It is quite possible that thy are all in the same area.

I hope this helps

T D Maitland
