Maitland line with Royal Descents

Governor Dean's candidacy seems to have stirred interest in his Maitland mother's ancestry. The currently published "Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants" (Gary Boyd Roberts) lists Andrea Maitland Dean as in the American line of James William Maitland (of N.Y.), Thomas A. Maitland, and another James William Maitland (wives had O'Reilly, Van Voohis and Wigglesworth surnames). The original J. W. Maitland had very impressive royal descents--from James IV of Scotland ("at least three ways over") and thus, from the Scottish kings, back to British and continental royalty. If you want to trace that, John Beaufort, father-in-law of James I, was a grandson of Edward III of England. Listings are in the Roberts book.
