Maitlands in Aberdeen

I would be interesting in hearing from anyone searching MAITLAND in Aberdeen...in particular, Old Machar, Woodside, St Nicholas. My research to date also has connections to:
PHILLIPS
COWIE
SUTHERLAND
CLERIHEW among others. My grandparents George (b. 1897) & Margaret (Phillips) (b. 1901) MAITLAND immigrated from Scotland in the late 1920s and settled in Buffalo, NY.

Records show that George's parents, John (b. 1862) & Georgina (SUTHERLAND b. 1859) MAITLAND lived in Aberdeen, moved to Barre, Vermont to work in the quarries, then returned to Aberdeen. They had two sons while in Barre, John WIlliam (b. 1893) and Alexander (b. 1895) and a son and daughter after returning to Aberdeen (George above) and Christina (b. 1900).

The next generation is John (b. 1840) & Jane (b. 1841, CLERIHEW) MAITLAND. Both born in Old Machar, Aberdeen and died in Newhills, Aberdeen. They had 5 sons, John (listed above), James, Alexander, Robert, and Francis.\

Now it gets confusing:
Parents of John MAITLAND (b.1840) appear as Francis (b. 1819) & Helen (b. abt 1816, INNES) MAITLAND on some documents. Francis is listed as a brass finisher on his son's death certificate. However, the record of marriage for John MAITLAND & Jane CLERIHEW lists John's father as John MAITLAND, still married to Helen INNES, but listed as a blacksmith.

I suppose he could have been John Francis or Francis John, but this has made my search quite diffficult. If Francis is correct, and born 1819, then I have parents as William (b. 1792) & Christian (b. 1794, GIBB) MAITLAND, who lived in Newhills, Aberdeen, but died in Wisconsin. They had 9 children, Francis (listed above), William, Christian, Agnes, Isabella, Jean Gibb, Agnes again (assuming the first died young), Georgina, and John Blackie MAITLAND.

Parents of William are William (date unknown) & Mary (date unknown, DAVIDSON) MAITLAND. They were married in 1789 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen.

That's where it ends. If anyone can clear up the John/Francis mystery I would greatly appreciate it. I'm willing to share other info that I've gathered.

Finally, in tracing the parents of Jane CLERIHEW, I found records, for William CLERIHEW, married to Margaret DAVIDSON. William's father is George CLERIHEW, married to Margaret DUNDAS RICHARDSON.. George's parents were Francis CLERIHEW and Janet BEVERLIE. I was contacted by someone who claims this lineage of Clerihews may not be correct, however, I cannot find an alternate lineage that makes any better sense. To make matters worse, I cannot find a record of birth for Jane CLERIHEW (or her husband. John MAITLAND), making it even more difficult to confirm parents.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Scott Maitland
