Fredk Maitland 1782 Scotland

Looking for information on Balgreggan House, Wigtownshire, Scotland between 1700 and 1850. On a map of 1782 Balgreggan House and lands are shown as belonging to an Honourable Fredk (I assume Frederick) Maitland Esquire. My GGGG Grandfather Andrew Hyslop and his wife Janat McMickan were born C 1780 and married 1801 in Stonekirk about 2 miles North of Balgreggan House. In 1801 they had a son who they named Maitland Hyslop. It has been a tradition within the family over the last 200 years that the name Maitland has been used as a forename. It is my belief that Andrew and Janat worked at this house or on the estate for the Maitland family and in honour of that named their first son Maitland. Maitland Hyslop b 1801 d 1873 is the oldest connection I can make with my family. I am able to find reference to a lady by the name of Maitland Young who was married in 1628 although I can make no connection with my own family at this time. I have found around 9 relatives by using Maitland as a forename in my research. If there is anybody who can help me with details of Balgreggan House, Fredk Maitland, Andrew, Janat and Maitland Hyslop or anybody with the forename Maitland then I would be obliged if you could get in touch.

Le deagh dhurachd

Maitland
