Judith, the brothers Maitland of the late 1700's were business people and seemed to have means beyond the ordinary. The early letter of 1833 sent from one of these brothers in Pittsburgh points out they were in commerce. I have images of this letter but, have given the original to decendents of the author of it. The Maitlands appear to have their roots in Scotland.
