Hello Helen,
My 4th Great Grandfather James Maitland came from Paisley, Scotland to Canada to fight in the War of 1812. After the war he was granted 200 acres of land in Ontario, where he settled and raised his family. Subsequent generations lived in Ontario, then Manitoba, and eventually branched out to other Provinces and States in the USA.
