Hi Patricia,
Acccording to my database of Ayrshire OPR records, Hugh Mair married Agnes McClelland in March 1828 (Marriage recorded Loudoun on 8 Mar. & Galston 23 Mar.). One issue is recorded prior to civil registration - Jean Mair, christened on 2 March 1830.
'Jean' & 'Jane' seemed to be quite interchangeable in those days and of course the accuracy of parish scribes was notorious! My other database actually has Jane/Janet Mair recorded in the 1841 and 1851 Census records. It also records that Jane was a home loam weaver living at the 'Old Manse' in Galston.
My family originally came from Galston area and I am currently researching Mair links in the area in the mid-1750's.
