I can only respond that I have copies of the original marriage record from Bracken County Courthouse that give the names George Mains and Polly Mains in the Marriage Bond of James D. Daugherty and Polly Mains. I went in 2008 and had to be admitted into the locked room by a member of the historical society who wore gloves while handling the book and made all copies. I was not looking for MAINS; I was looking up DAUGHERTY/DOUGHERTY records.

The name was not Marris.

As far as the estate of George Mains I copied this:
"Deeds conveying the 100 acres and 20 acres on Locust & Willow Creeks are signed by George Mains and Alse (Brannon), his wife; Abraham Thorp and Mary, his wife; Mark Weatherington and Elizabeth, his wife; James Wood and
Catherine, his wife; Peter Mains and Elizabeth (Wood), his wife; Philip Mains, and Mary (Wood), his wife; Jacob Mains and Sarah (Bypher), his wife; and Levi Mains and Rachel (Hamilton), his wife."
George Mains and Some of His Descendants, by William Arthur Owen 1937; JSTOR: The William and Mary Quarterly, 1892-2003.
