William Mains and wife Mary Ann (Smith) are part of our Stires family history searching in New Jersey. William Mains born March 7, 1816; wife Mary Ann (Smith) born April 28, 1814. Married Jan. 17, 1837. Don't know when Wm. Mains died, but wife Mary Ann died Dec. 18, 1912 at 99 years. Mary Ann (Smith) was sister to Catherine (Smith) who married Jacob Styers. William Mains and Mary Ann (Smith) lived in Port Murray, Warren Co., NJ in 1839. In 1860 they are found in Beavertown (now Lincoln Park), Pequannock Twp., Morris Co. My ancestor Samuel G. Stires moved there and bought property from William Mains, who probably was his neighbor in Port Murray (same William Mains?).
Children of William Mains and wife Mary Ann (Smith) include: Levi, b. 8/16/1835; Ellenor b. Feb. 21, 1838; twins Joseph P. and Aaron born Aug. 19, 1840. Joseph died at 3 yrs. on 4/12/1843. Aaron died as a new born; John S. b. Nov. 1, 1842; Emma b. Feb. 16, 1846. Details from Smith Bible record.
I wish to know about this Mains family, for they were neighbors in two locations. Don't know where they are buried (don't know where my Samuel G. Stires and wife Sarah Ann (Moore) are buried either -- perhaps same cemetery?).
Help welcome on this. Willing to share what I have.
W. Dennis Stires, 19 Crash Road, Livermore, ME 04253-3014.
