Ancestry from Germany and Italy
I met many people in my life but they never had the same last name as I do until I discovered my last name online. I believe the original spelling from my grandfather Carl's side of the family from Germany was spelled Maher. The 'h' was replaced with an 'i' when my grandparents, Carl and Greta had arrived by ship into New York. If anybody had the opportunity to taste the delicious bakery goods in the 1950s [nineteen-hundred-fifties] in the Chicago area; known by many visitors as Maier's Bakery, Cook County areas
of the State of Illinois... these grandparents had a bakery
for approximately one decade before retiring in the Sixties
Era to California... Downey for a short time and then, they
relocated to Carlsbad, California. Greta Barbara Ritter and
Carl Joseph Maier were my grandparents. My mother's name was Grace and my Dad's name was Werner. My grandparents are dead as well as my parents passed on too. I am alone now but I am happy to be a MAIER and I bake to this very day! I baked banana nut loaves today! God bless you all!
