MAGHAN - Ireland>Canada>Minnesota

William W. Maghan and his wife Margaret (Maguire) emigrated to Canada from a county in northern Ireland around 1856. It's possible that a son, Samuel, was born in Ireland before they left. They were living in Simcoe County, Ontario in 1861, when their son Robert was born.

They had, I believe, 5 sons that came to the U.S. to Duluth, Minnesota in the late 19th century. In the 1900 census, Robert lived near Brainerd and there are 3 Maghan families in Duluth. My g-grandfather, Thomas, had lived in Brainerd, but died around 1900, I think, and was not in that census.

I'd like to hear from anyone with Maghan ancestors from Ireland or Canada.

And of course I'd love to hear from anyone who knows about these particular Maghans. A search at FTM's Family Finder shows a William Maghan in a Family Archive CD with censuses from 1831 or 1841 for 2 counties in Ireland (CD197). But I don't have the CD and I don't know if he's related, somehow, to my William Maghan.

And, continuing an earlier thread, - we pronounce it "MAY en". :-)
