Hello T. Hogan:
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
Note 4 - The National Library of Ireland (NLI) has microfilms of parish church rcds.
For Br(idget) McGloin B 1870 +/- 2 yrs, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, with a father forenamed Pat(rick), I found 1 rcd, 1870.
For Edward McGloin B 1869 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1869.
For Mic(hael) McGloin B 1867 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1867, for a Michael Charles.
For John McGloin B 1864 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1864, for a John Joseph.
For Mary McGloin B 1860 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1860.
For James McGloin B 1859 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1859.
The above B rcds are highly likely to be for your named ancestors. A view of the rcds SHOULD show the correct parents names. The views may also give you clues to find the parent's B/M rcds.
For Marg(aret) McGloin B 1857 +/- 1 yr, Co. Leitrim, with a father forenamed Pat(rick), I found 1 rcd, 1857, Killasnet RC parish. This is a POSSIBLE sibling based on my inability to find a marriage rcd for Patrick and Margaret in Co. Roscommon.
For Pat(rick) McGloin M 1858 +/- 2 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, I found 7 rcds: 2-1856 Leitrim, 1857 Sligo, 1857 Mayo, 1858 Leitrim, 1858 Cavan, and 1859 Mayo.
For Marg(aret) Larkin M ditto, I found 1 matching rcd, 1856 Leitrim, Manorhamilton Marriage Banns RC. These are potential marriage rcds for the pair.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
