Hello Merne,
According to the records I have, there are many differnt spellings of the name. Here are what I have. These seem to be the most common:
Mahuran, Mahuren, Mahurin, Mahuron, McHurin, McHuron,Mehurin, Mehuron, Hurin and Huron. All these variations are, however, part of the same family descended from the original ancestor, with a very few exceptions; there is a family named Meherrin in California, who's forebears came from Ireland; and there are some families named Huron who are not related.
I am married to Clifford D Mahurin, son of Charley and Florence Mahurin, descendent of Hugh Mahurin (Mehurin). Hugh was born possibly about 1665, probably in Scotland or Northern Ireland. He died May 1718 at Taunton, Bristol County, Mass. He married a woman named Mary (?). It is speculated that she might be one of the Campbell family. After Hugh's death she married William Bassett, February 19, 1718/19, at Bridgewater, Mass. She was his 3rd wife. William died about 1734, aged sixty-seven. Would you happen to know the last name of Mary? I have loads of information on the Mahurins. I will gladly share with anyone wishing to find out about our family.
