I found the marriage of the parents of my great grandmother on the Loiselle Index recently. It appears that her father, Louis Maheu, would have been a brother to Madeleine.
I was not certain about the next Louis Maheu being the son of another Louis and Marguerite Rastout. The Loiselle Index showed "Maheu, Louis (vf Marie Hiraque), [son of] Michel [and] Lee-Mad. Turgeon [married to] Rastout, Marguerite Vadeboncouer" (the Vadeboncouer was on a separate line underneath).
In looking for further references to that name, I came across Rastout with the (dit) Vadeboncouer name at http://www.jacksonville.net/~rogerv/rastout.pdf (you will need Acrobat Reader to view this document). There is also a reference to this same marriage, with one child listed that apparently died in infancy.
The marriage of Louis Maheu and Angélique Perrier in the Loiselle Index showed the parents of Louis Maheu as "Louis [and] Marguerite Rastoul". I guess I wasn't convinced that this was the same marriage, especially when I found that there is such a surname as Rastoul. Also I began wondering about the marriage being at Notre-Dame in Montreal, but perhaps that was normal during that time.
In any case, I would certainly like to enter all this wonderful information into my family tree, but I am just a beginner and also wondering about the "burden of proof" when it comes to these things.
Any advice and/or assurances would be greatly appreciated.
