Note to all:

I have contacted Suffolk Law School and learned that Thomas Maher did indeed attend classes there but did not graduate nor practice law in Massachusetts. I have also confirmed that he was indeed a barber in Cambridge. I thank you for your responses to my query and end this line of search.
