I am related to Maher's/Meagher's from County Tipperary, the Roscrea area. My great grandmother Ellen Maher-Tracy daughter of Mary Anna Harrold and Patrick Maher was the first of her siblings to come to the USA in the 1860's.

Her father sent a letter that gives a great deal of information about Roscrea and the cost of living etc. He signed his name Patrick Maher, but in later years I found a note with his signature Patrick Meagher. So, I feel they used both spellings interchangably - confusing, you bet.

I also did a search in Ireland and found that Ellen was actually born in Kinnity, County Offaly which is very close to Roscrea, County Tip.

The Maher's and the Harrolds married and it gets confusing
past 1799, I am stuck there. It looks like cousins married cousins and no one in my family can give me much information.

I did go to Roscrea and found relatives and had a wonderful time. I know a bit more, but of course did not have the Offaly tie-in until I returned home.

Any help would be so appreciated.
