There are Mahaneys everywhere
I live in Alabama and my grandfather is a Mahaney.
He has told me a story many times about how his side of the the Mahaney name got changed. His uncle,Haskel Mahaney, was drafted into WWII and the military mistyped his name instead of Mahaney as McHaney. When he returned from war his father (which would be my grandfather's grandfather) thought that there was no way the government could be wrong so he changed his and his families spelling to McHaney instead of Mahaney. I thought this was very interesting. My grandfather is from Crossville, Tennessee. His brother isinvolved in genealogy and has traced the Mahaney name back really far. He has found out in doing this that there are alot of Mahaneys still living in different parts of Tennessee. My grandfather's father was James T Mahaney.James T Mahaney's father was Ransom W Mahaney. I have a disk that goes back along time with the whole family tree on it.
