I do have more information, especially on extended family. I have not been able to document (other than through other pedigrees) that my 3rd great-grandfather Jacob Wesley Mahaffey is Alfred T.'s 1/2 brother. They supposedly have the same father. Alfred is living next door (in 1870) to my Jacob Mahaffey's future wife (Missouri Elizabeth Loftin). Jacob was born in 1858. He has a sister named Ailey/Alcy/Alsy born 1856 in TX (according to the 1870 census). Their mother is May/Mary J. Rhodes Mahaffey. Her father's name is Jacob Rhodes. They are from SC. William Mahaffey & Eleanor Ward are the parents of Alfred T. Mahaffey. According to church records, Eleanor died around 1853/54. Our family bible states that Jacob has a sister named Nan Mahaffey McCool and an Alex Mahaffey. According to others, Nan and Alex are the children of Wm and Eleanor. If this is indeed the case, Jacob would be a 1/2 sibling to Nan, Alfred, and Alex. Am I as clear as mud yet? Everything seems to fit (birthdates, etc), but I still do not have any record to prove that Wm is indeed Jacobs father. Can you shed any light on this? As for Birch..I have two people named Birch in my records. One is the son of Willett and Nellie and another who is born 1877 to William Mahaffey and Sarah Adeline Dunahoo in TX. Wm is a cousin to Alfred T.. I wonder where the name Birch came from. Do you know? Hope to hear from you soon. Shannon Notify Administrator about this message?
