From the publication of “Tennessee Convicts: Early Records of the State Penitentiary Vol. 1 1831-1850” by Charles A. Sherrill and Tomye M. Sherrill, published by Charles A. Sherrill, Mt. Juliet, TN in 1997:
Isaac Mahaffy (McHaffy?) from Wilson County, entered prison Feb. 8, 1841 for murder, sentenced 10 years. He is 34 years old, 5’8” high, 154 lbs, sandy hair, fair skin, blue eyes with some scars…. Born on Hanging Rock Creek, Car?? County, South Carolina, raised in Wilson Co., TN near Jesse Holt’s mill. His wife and four children are in the poor house in Wilson County; four other children are bound out.
