Have you ever read S C Turnbo's Tales of the Ozarks??? It seems to me I remember reading a story about a murder that sounds a great deal like the one you mention. Might be worth checking out??? The transcripts can be found in several online locations. One of the places I read them is Springfield, Missouri's library. It can be found under Greene County library (I think).
