Hi Ann,

I was blessed this week when I got stuck in the snowstorm that hit Abilene. I pulled into a motel, but they were full. But a man had just called the motel to offer his home to anyone in need.

His name is Chick Laster, and he showed me pictures of his kin in Batesville, Ark back in the 1800's when they owned 2 ferries across the White River. My mother grew up there. Her maiden name was Thompson and her father was a judge and state legislator! He said his mother was a Magness, and that they have a huge reunion every 4th of July. He lives in Baird, TX and trains cutting horses (once for Joe Montana) and owns a Truck dealership in Clyde. If he is related to you, you come from good stock indeed. This man was beaten nearly to death in Tucson (where I'm from), but took in this scraggly stranger without a concern.
Best wishes to you.
