William MAGINNISS, Indiana - 1840s

I have an originall 1843 scholarship document issued to William McGINNIS to the Indiana Asbury University (I believe it later became DePauw University).

I also have personal letters between Jemima (BUDD) SHARP (wife of Rev. Solomon SHARP) to her daughter Ann B. (Sharp) MAGINNISS (note the spelling) who is the wife of Rev. William MAGINNISS.

The original document and letters were passed on to me by my grandmother. William MAGINNISS (or McGINNIS) is my 3rd great-grandfather. He and Ann had a daughter, Sarah Lydia MAGINNISS (or McGinnis). Again, the originall letters that I have are addressed with the spelling as MAGINNISS. The scholarship document, however, is spelled McGINNIS.

Rev. William MAGINNISS (or McGinnis) letters are addressed to Rev. Wm. MAGINNISS in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana in the 1840s.

William and Ann also had children:
Nathaniel S. MAGINNIS,
Thomas James MAGINNISS,
Solomon Sharp MAGINNISS,
Martha Jemima Sharp MAGINNISS, and
Sarah Lydia MAGINNISS
(or was their surname spelled McGINNISS on other documents?).

This William MAGINNISS (or McGINNIS) is a genealogical brick wall to me. Can someone help with this mystery? I do think that this Rev. William MAGINNIS (McGINNIS) came from England, but I'm not sure.
