Lorraine,
The Madsen family emigrated to Wisconsin 1870 from Nakskov.
At that time of registration they were:
Father:Hans, 56
Mother:Karen, 58
Children: Birthe, 18
Marie, 22
Carl, 17
Niels, 21
Jens, 22
and my grandfather, Martin, 19, followed the same year, ultimately settling as a rancher/businessman in Colfax, WA, married in late 40's to Eva Mary Hanna, had 4 daughters. The youngest daughter, my mother, passed in Feb. 2007 at age 95.He passed in 1936 in his 80's, is buried next to his wife (passed in 1966) in the Colfax cemetery.
Carl went to Texas.Believe Niels and Jens ultimately returned to Denmark."Mads" would be not his true name, so he could be one of these brothers, and the wedding could be the reason my grandfather made a return visit to Denmark about that year.
Feel free to email me if you have more to share or more to ask about.
