My husband descends from Alex and Mary Stewart Madill of Artemesia, Grey co..
The following marriage notice is of interest.
York Co. marriages Ref 3, page 33:
Joseph Leslie age 28, Residence Albion, born Ireland, son of Samuel & Esther Leslie to Ellenor Madill, age 18, residence Albion, Born Canada. Parents Alex & Mary. Witnesses
Benjm Madil, Residence Artemesia
Ellenor Stewart, Residence Albion. 27 Sept. 1865. Marriage solemnized by Henry B. Osler, Oncombent of St. Mary Church Lloydtown, Ontario
Alexander Madill married to Mary Stewart lived in Clarke township, York, Albion and then Artemesia. Presumably the witness Benjamin is her brother who had moved to Artemesia and Ellenor Stewart may possibly be Mary Stewart Madill's youngest sister born about 1840. Ellenor Madill may have stayed behind in Albion when her family moved to Artemesia. I don't know how this ties in with your Eleanor descended from Joseph Bell. I do know that there was another Alexander Madill who was married to an Ann Bell living in the eastern part of Ontario.
