Hi, I Have been reading all the posting and found that there were quite a few similarities with what my father and aunt had found. I would really like to hear from any one that has any information that would help fill in some blanks. I am really interested in the Devitt line and the Bells.
Our family has been trying to trace our family for a number of years. My aunt has travelled to different towns/cities in Canada hoping to find some more information.
From what we have been able to find our ancestors originated in La Rochelle District of Brittany in France. They were Hugenots who were expelled from France for adhering to their religion at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. The original spelling of the name was Medille and is said to mean male. Three brothers eventually settled in the county Monahan in Ireland and from there have spread descendants all over the world. The first Migration to North America occurred about 1815 to 1819, and there were several later migrations.
