Hi Lynne!
My gr grandfather was Edward Robinson Madeley, born in the U.S. His parents, though, were from Yorkshire. They were married in Batley in 1860. Their names were William Madeley and Mary Eliza Preston. The Prestons would seem to be a numerous bunch in Yorkshire, but we'd been finding it a real challenge to track the Madeleys. It would appear that this may be because the family originated elsewhere. We know one of William's brothers (John) was born in Cheshire. We've found indications that 2 other brothers (Hiram and Robert) were born in Derbyshire. We know that there are many Madeleys in Shropshire and Staffordshire. We can tell you more about William's family if you think you'd be interested. Let us know - and of course we'd be interested in knowing what you might know too!
Mari R.
