You are right, the names do not show up in the Maddux line. There were at least 4 large land grants around Baxter before 1850. Baxter was knowm as the Lowe Lands at that time. Grants were, Cook starting about a mile east of Baxter and going east toward Cookeville, Lowe from Cooks west and to about a mile south of Baxter, Allison grant joined Lowe on the south, this took in part of Cane creek, this must have been the Madden area, on the west of Lowe was the Lee grant. Maddux was on highway 70 about that time. That would put around 3 to 5 miles between Maddux and Madden at that time and it puts Madden in the Allison area. Might be worth checking the Allison book or Cook for connections. Wish I had the answer for you, if Lela comes up with anything we will inform you.
