Hi, Vicki -- Thanks for your reply to my posting. I just assumed that Martha A. MADDRA who m. Joshua RYON was named after her mother, as so many women in my family groups are. Like you, I would assume that William MADDERA was deceased by the time of Martha & Joshua's marriage, since Lewis LANCASTER was Surety for them, and it does seem likely that he (Wm.) was Martha Ann's father. The "A" is for Ann, by the way. They were members of the Kentucky Town Baptist Church in Grayson Co, TX after moving to TX, and I think it was in the church records that her middle name was given. Also, in all the Texas records I've seen (court & church records), RYON was spelled with an "o" rather than an "a." I have no other MADDRA/MADDERA names listed. Thanks for the additional information on other marriages. They may well be Martha Ann's siblings. I feel pretty sure they are -- the name is unusual so I suspect that anyone in Bedford Co, VA at that time would have been related. Good luck in your search! --Becky
