Nichols-Smallwood-Maddox Heritage
To my cousins dating from the seventeenth century:
The wife of Col. James Smallwood was Esther "Hester" Nichols, daughter of John Nichols and his wife Ann who was the widow of William Evans. This relationship is documented in the highest courts, the best proof possible.
You have reason to be proud of your Nichols ancestors, Maryland’s twelve common men of the Lower Council, and two of five men of the Upper Council.
Signature marks and cattle marks traced in Maryland and Virginia leave no lingering doubts about our forefather – John Nichols (1618-).
