I believe that George Maddox (b. 1810; SC) is connected to my family a few generations back in Abbeville Co, SC. My GGGGG Grandfather is Daniel H. Maddox (ABT 1770-ABT 1860). He spent his youth in Abbeville Co, SC before crossing the river to Elbert Co, GA, eventually moving to Gwinnett Co, GA.

In researching Abbeville records, I strongly suspect that Chandler Maddox is the brother or cousin of my Daniel. Likewise, I am even more convinced that Chandler had at least two brothers, one named Benjamin, Jr. and the other Lawson. If so, then Benjamin Senior would clearly be the name of Chandler's father.

One sure way to prove whether or not Chandler is related to my Daniel is through DNA testing. DNA testing compares the Y-DNA (male) Chromosome of participating individuals. If the DNA matches, then the participants share a common ancestor. The test is painless, private, and reasonably inexpensive. If you'd like, please see the Maddox DNA Web Site. My family is represented by Kit # 32442:

Because the Y-DNA is passed along only from father to son, female descendants are not able to participate. We need a male descendant of George (b. 1810) who still carries the Maddox name. If the DNA profile of a descendant of George (b. 1810) matches that of my Daniel, then we will have established that 1) George is definitely the son of Chandler, and 2) Chandler is definitely related to my Daniel. Furthermore, we could be almost positive that Chandler is the son of Benjamin Senior, based on strong circumstantial evidence suggesting that Benjamin Junior is Chandler's brother.
