Hi Colin
Sorry it's taken so long to post a follow up to this. Your William is too young to be my Louisa's father, but he could be a brother. What was his father's name please? Have you, in this passage of time, perhaps found out by obtaining his birth certificate what his mother's name was?
I am still stuck on my Louisa and her "brother" Albert Pope.
In 1881 Louisa was said to have been born in 1857 (age 24), 2 years older than her "husband" (Haven't found a marriage).
In 1891 she was 36(so born 1855). Alfred was staying with them then, born 1859/60. In the earlier census he had been in the Navy as he was in 1891. Alfred also had a brother Charles (we have a photo of the brothers with Louisa's husband and another chap) who was also in the Navy in 1881 aged 25 (born 1856).
So I still need to know what exactly the relationship is between Louisa Maddock and the Pope boys and I still need to know who Louisa's parents were. And how to prove it without a marriage certificate for Louisa and Samuel Whymark!
Any tiny snippets or hints welcomed!
Fran
