Charles Madden Ireland to Lawrence, MA

Hello all, I have been researching my great grandfather for many years, but I'm not having much luck.
His name was Charles Madden, born in Ireland (Free State whatever that means?) March 1867, immigrated 1885, married Margaret Sullivan (also from Ireland) about 1887. Charles and Margaret had 7 children: Nora Agnes Madden born 1888 (married John Regan), Patrick Henry born 1890 in NH (married Mildred Bower), William James born 1893 in NH (married Helen M.?) Charles born 1894, died 1910, Anne M. born 1897 (married Arthur Tivnan) Mary (aka May) born 1900 (never married) died 1988, and my grandmother margaret Madden born 1903 (married John fyfe). As far as I know, except where noted, all of these fine people were born in Lawrence.
I cannot find Charles or Margaret's immigration, and on any records where it asks where he was born it says "Ireland" which is a rather large place, chock full of Madden's.
If anyone has ANY info on this family, other than what can be gleaned from the census, I would so very much appreciate your assistance. Thank you, Heather (Fyfe) Clark (hefyfe at cox dot net)
