I would like to thank 'cousin' Pat for providing the following transcription of the will of John Maycie (Macy) from 1575. I believe he may very well be the grandfather of Thomas Macy who immigrated to the U.S.,lived in Nantucket & died in 1682.

Will of John Maycie

In the name of God Amen. The 24th day of May AD 1575 I John Maycie of the parish of Chilmarke, being sick of body but perfect of remembrance, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say, First I give and bequeath my soul unto God Almighty and my body to be buried in our parish church of Chilmarke called St. Margaret's. Item I give and bequeath unto our mother church of Sarum [Salisbury] 8d. Item I bequeath unto my parish church of Chilmark 3s.4d. Item to be buried in the church I give and bequeath 6s.8d. Item I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Maycie a great crock and one `buringe caudren'. Item I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Maycie's 7 children 7 sheep, to be indifferently chosen. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Philip one great pan, 2 pewter dishes, and 20s. of money. Item I give and bequeath to my son William Maycie 20s. of money. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Anstie 20s. of money. Item I give and bequeath to eight of my son-in-law Richard Rogers's children 4 bu. of barley to be divided amongst them. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Agnes Roger 6s. 8d. Item I give to my daughter Alice Andrews a pan the which she hath in her keeping. Item I give to John Maycie the son of Richard Maycie a `wendlinge' calf of the price of 10s. Item I give unto Agnes Maycie and `Helinge' Maycie the daughters of Thomas Maycie one cow to be equally divided between the 2 sisters. Item I give unto John Maycie the son of Thomas Maycie one sheep. Item I give unto my godson John Clare 6d. Item I give unto my godson John Snow 6d. Item my will is to request Christopher Helme and William Stephen to be the overseers of this my will and to have for their pains 20s. apiece. Item all the rest of my goods ungiven or bequeathed, I give and bequeath unto Anne my wife and Richard my son, whom I make the executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof: Christopher Helme, John Clare, William Stephen, Sir* John Morton curate, with others.

Proved before the official of the archdeacon of Salisbury 10 September 1575

(The title `Sir' implies a priest with a degree of BA.)
