Could anyone please clarify for me. My copy of Burke's Landed Gentry (may be a galley proof) shows the succession of McColme/MacThomas chieftans as follows, which would seem to contravene the accepted notion that John McColme (Ian Mohr) was the 7th chieftan. Descending from William Mackintosh, 7th of Mackintosh and 8th of Clan Chattan: 1. Thomas, (ca. 1445-1520) of Glenshee, reckoned (according to Burkes) to be the first chieftan. 2. John McThomas (ca. 1475-1530) of Glenshee. 3. Adam McThomas (ca. 1500-1560) of Glenshee. signatory of Clan Chattan 4. Robert McThomas (ca. 1530-1600), succeeded by brother, John (5) 5. John McColme (ca. 1535 - 1610) married Janet nee Rattray 6. John McColme (ca. 1560-1628), married Janet nee Farquharson. 7. Alexander McColme (ca1585-1653), married Margaret nee Small 8. John McColme (ca.1607-1674) The legendary Ian Mohr? 9. Sixth son, Angus etc. etc. Notify Administrator about this message?
