Just found your post re- Alexander F Macrae son of James and Isabella Macdonald. I recently found the ancestors of James so your post set me to follow his family. I found their marriage in Perth 6 May 1849, James' occupation labourer. Isabella's death from Typhus fever at 5 Catherine St. Anderston Glasgow 13 May 1862 age 33.
1861 census at 13 Nicholson St. Greenock, James labourer 33 born Ross-shire, Isabella 32 born Invernessshire, Kilmorrack, daughters Isabella 6 and Janet 2.
1871 census at Hill St. Anderston James 42 Police Constable born Ross-shire, Glenshiel (2nd wife ) Sarah 34 son John 2. No sign of Alexander F Macrae in either census.

Have you found trace of him and where? Does the above ring true to you? James is a labourer by occupation on the marriage register and Police Constable on Isabella's death.

My connection to your Macdonald family is by my gr gr grandmother Mary Macdonald born at Carr Kintail and married to Donald Macrae the boat carpenter or Saor. A long way back on the cousin line.

Tina, resident in Lochalsh, neighbouring Kintail.
